BC Child Private Assessment List - Interior
Families do have the option to obtain an assessment outside of the BC Autism Assessment Network. However, assessments outside of BCAAN must adhere to the same standards and guidelines to be eligible for funding from the Ministry. Registered psychologists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists may provide private assessments.
Private assessments can range in price and may require other specialized assessment documentation dependent on the age of your child. You may also be able to use your extended medical benefits to cover some of the cost.
VarietyBC offers a private assessment grant for children aged 4 and under for families within their income cap: https://www.variety.bc.ca/support/assessments/
While waiting for assessment, you can start to research interventions and supports. AutismBC runs a Waiting for Assessment Workshop that would help understand the assessment process. Learn more about the workshop here.

"With the exception of young children, we assess for ASD in the context of comprehensive assessments, meaning that we want to be able to look at other potential reasons for difficulties.
