AutismBC Programs

AutismBC Goes - Want to come to a fun, sensory-friendly event? AutismBC Goes is a series of free, safe, supportive, and inclusive events designed to connect the autism community. We work to minimize the financial and social barriers for autistic people and their families.

Through our events, we create a platform for organizations, companies, and communities to hear from the autistic community and learn how they can create a more sensory-friendly and accepting environment. We educate the community-at-large about how they can become stronger allies for the autism community, all while having fun!

Meets are perfect for those who want a casual atmosphere to interact with other parents, families, or self-advocates. Come with an open heart and mind; you will find your network and maybe friends for life!

Minecraft Club - Minecraft Club is an inclusive space for Minecraft enthusiasts to come together and play! Our mission is to inspire connection through sharing tips, tricks and playing together!

We are bringing Minecraft Social Club back on a pilot basis, in partnership with Elysium, a non-profit delivering virtual Minecraft programs for neurodivergent kids.

Join us for a fun-filled 90-minute session on the last Thursday of the month, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

What to expect:

  • Meet other kids who love Minecraft as much as you do over a moderated video call — while you play!
  • Express your creativity how you like by trying out a series of building challenges.
  • Solve puzzles and fight monsters in custom Minecraft mini-games.

At this time, participants must be playing Minecraft Java Edition for PC/Mac only. The Minecraft server will be protected to support a safe, inclusive environment. Availability is limited for our first session but we hope to expand the program in the future!

Minecraft Jrs is designed for beginner or intermediate level players who are looking for a ‘vanilla’ server.

Minecraft Club is designed for advanced players looking to play in a cooperative survival world.

Pokémon Club - Pokémon Club is an in-person relaxed, social hangout where participants can come together to chat, trade cards, and enjoy Pokémon-themed activities. This is not a structured social program or therapy, and parent/guardian supervision is required at all times.

Key Details:

  • Age Group: 6-16 years old (older participants welcome as volunteers/mentors)
  • Cost: Free
  • Schedule: First Saturday of every month (3:00-5:00 PM)
    • If the volunteer organizer is unavailable, cancellations will be communicated to registered participants in advance.
  • Location: Kindly provided by the Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN).
  • Funding: Generously supported by AutismBC Social Club Program.

What to Expect At Pokémon Club, you can engage in one or more fun activities, such as crafts or games. A Pokémon show will often be playing on the TV, and there will be a Pokémon Card Trading Post (rules will be posted). Whether you come in costume, bring your stuffies, or simply hang out, participation is at your own pace and comfort level. It’s a low-pressure, welcoming environment where you can make friends and socialize on your own terms.

Card Trading Guidelines

  • Card trading is only allowed with parental/guardian permission.
  • Please determine beforehand if your child will participate in trading and if there are any specific limits or rules you’d like them to follow.
  • We encourage being mindful of fair trades, as some participants may still be learning this concept. Let’s ensure everyone has a positive experience!

Important Notes

  • Nut-Free Zone: The room is strictly nut-free. Please do not bring snacks containing nuts, and ensure hands are washed if you’ve handled nuts before attending.

We look forward to welcoming participants for some Pokémon fun!

What is Autism Workshop -Would you like to learn how to better support autistic people? Would you like to make your business or place of work more inclusive by becoming more sensory-friendly? Our community inclusion autism training does just that!

Over the course of an hour, participants learn how community members on the autism spectrum may experience the world with the goal of increasing autism awareness and acceptance.

The world we want to see is one where community accommodations are commonplace, and community spaces are designed to support all neurotypes.

Our training is informed and developed by autism service providers, parents of autistic children, and autistic self-advocates. Visit our events page to learn more: https://www.autismbc.ca/programs/learning/what-is-autism-workshop/
